Mrs. Hannah Elizabeth (Oliver) Dunlavy, widow of the Rev. Howard H. Dunlavy died Monday morning at 3 o’clock at her home, 915 Pontiac Avenue, the announcement of her death being received with sorrow over a wide area for she was one of the best known Methodist Church workers in this section of the state.  She had been ill several months. Her husband was for 44 years a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church 40 years having been spent at charges in the Northwest Indiana ME Conference and all that time Mrs. Dunlavy was an active worker in missionary and other movements. Born in Putnam County, Indiana June 30, 1854, she grew to womanhood there and was married to Mr. Dunlavy on November 21, 1872.  A few years later her husband entered upon his preaching career. His years in service added to those of his brother, Rev. AA Dunlavy and his son Edwin W. Dunlavy, total more than 100 in active ministry.  Mr. Dunlavy died here on Jan 23, 1922, and his widow had remained in the family home with a daughter Miss Laura K. Dunlavy. The couple came to Lafayette the last time in 1911 but had lived here previously, Mr. Dunlavy having served as pastor of Congress Street and West Lafayette ME Churches. His son, Edwin W. Dunlavy came here as pastor of Trinity Church in 1911 and his parents took up residence here at that time. For nearly 20 years Mrs. Dunlavy had been actively connected with Trinity and was a life member of its Women’s Foreign Missionary Society. She is survived by three children: The Rev. EW Dunlavy, now pastor of Englewood ME Church, Chicago, formerly with the Roberts Park Church, Indianapolis; Mrs. Leta Houk, Florida and Miss Laura K. Dunlavy, this city.  There are also three grandchildren. Friends may call at the Dunlavy home after noon Tuesday. The body will lie in state at Trinity Church from noon to 2 o’clock Wednesday when the funeral service will be held at the church, Rev. TF Williams, DD officiating. Burial in Springvale cemetery. – kbz
